Court Square Park – A Community Green Space for Dogs in Long Island City, NY

Court Square Park is a popular neighborhood park located at the intersection of Court Square and Jackson Ave in Long Island City, NY. Known for its central fountain, surrounding benches, and grassy spaces, this park is a favorite gathering spot for dog owners in the area. While not a dedicated or fully fenced dog park, the open lawns are frequently used by locals for letting their dogs play and socialize, especially since options for dog parks in the neighborhood are currently limited.

The park features plenty of seating around the fountain and along one side of the block, making it easy for owners to relax while their dogs enjoy the outdoors. Though the fountain operates seasonally, the area offers a lively and pet-friendly atmosphere. However, potential visitors should note that grass can become worn in areas due to heavy use by dogs, and off-leash play often occurs informally. Be mindful of posted signs and local etiquette when visiting this well-loved urban space.

dear boss

Would look a lot nicer if it was ABLE to be well kept. I get why you’ve given up on the endeavor. The amount of dogs running around with their owners is astounding. Thanks for picking up.

Dog-related Issues Need Attention:

The park’s charm has been marred by dogs from nearby houses, resulting in a scorched lawn with a persistent smell. Despite signs, the problem persists. Hoping for a quick solution like a fence and lawn improvement to restore the park’s appeal.

Nice park in front of the courthouse the neighborhood was named for. The fountain is on during the summer months, there’s seating around the fountain as well, and one side of the block has a line of park benches. The grassy area on either side of the fountain is great for dogs to roam around and people and their dogs often congregate here to let their dogs play because the area is lacking in an adequate dog park.

I came here before they closed it down for some reason. It was a nice place to sit. The fountain wasn’t running when I visited.
