Peter Detmold Park is a charming, lesser-known dog park nestled in the heart of Midtown East, New York, NY. Its dog run is highly praised by locals for its cleanliness and is maintained by the community, making it a welcoming spot for both residents and visitors seeking a dog-friendly, peaceful urban escape. The park features cobbled grounds, which help keep your pups clean and less muddy, especially after rain.
This dog park offers a tranquil setting away from the city’s hustle and bustle, making it ideal for meditation, relaxation, or spending quality time with your furry friend. While it’s tucked away and somewhat secluded, its unique riverside location provides scenic views and a serene atmosphere, perfect for social dogs and their owners looking for a respite in New York City.

Its kind of hidden place, not crowded, thats why i was a bit scared to walk alone there.
A good dog park is there.
Love taking my pups over to the dog run just down the steps and past the first left exit. The dog run is very clean and kept by neighbors so please bear that in mind. The park is cobbled so the pups are also less likely to get muddy or dirty.
This has long been one of my favorite little parks in the city, a hidden gem to borrow the cliche. I discovered during my first of three jobs in the neighborhood and visits here during lunch got me through the challenges of each. My photos are of the construction of the waterfront trail and esplanade across the FDR that I’m anxiously awaiting. I suspect locals are not looking forward to it however, as it will reduce the park’s isolation as a pocket park used mainly by locals.
Smells like wet dog often since there’s a dog park right there. And people often come here to smoke cigarettes when it’s nice out. Other than that it’s beautiful.
