This is a lovely local park that had fallen to assault of urban blight. In the last decade, local families had given way to homeless, drug abusers and frightening thugs who had made the park their own private “Tortuga” in the heart of Jamaica. In the last few years however, the neighborhood has been making a comeback, and the park recently underwent a complete renovation. Broken glass, hypodermic needles and used condoms , once the norm, have been cleared away to make room for families strolling with baby carriages and kids and teens playing soccer in the grass. Local workers can be seen walking and jogging around the park on their lunch hour. Older folks can now spend pleasant afternoons in the park when the weather is welcoming.
The park was built around the former home of Rufus King, described as a lawyer, statesman and gentleman farmer 1755-1827. The manor itself is maintained as a museum and it is said “the library is the most interesting room in the manor”. If you find yourself in the area, the park and manor are worthy of a visit, but don’t go at night. The museum is closed and the park while accessible, is also closed at dusk.
The local community still struggles with the “former park residents” for control of this pretty little oasis, but families and kids seem to be winning.

The play ground has a nice kid area equipped with sprinklers in the summer time and money bars along with other kid friendly play ground rides. It also has a nice size basketball court. Along with a decent size hand ball court right next to it.both are pretty clean.

The bathrooms are not that good, but nevertheless they are still there .the atmosphere is usually relaxed up there, but sometimes in the summer the park in that area gets kind of crowded. And sometimes a little rowdy. But nevertheless it is a good playground.
