🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Ft Lewis Dog Park is a spacious, off-leash dog park located on West Way in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. Well-known for its surprisingly large and open layout, this dog park provides plenty of room for your dog to run, play, and socialize without feeling crowded—even on its busiest days, visitors have reported encountering only a handful of other dogs at a time. The park’s open fields and a few scattered trees offer an inviting setting for both relaxed strolls and high-energy play, making it a great spot for skittish or reactive dogs seeking a quieter environment.
This pet-friendly park is a frequent favorite for locals looking for dog-friendly activities in the area. While the park is generally kept clean, some visitors have noted occasional lapses in maintenance, so bringing your own waste bags is recommended. Water is available from a hydrant just outside the park, though owners should bring their own water dish. The grounds drain well, minimizing mud after rain, and the park’s flat, open nature is perfect for owners who want to keep an eye on their pets. Whether you’re stationed at JBLM or just nearby, this dog park offers one of the biggest areas for dogs to play off-leash in the Tacoma region.
This park is huge, flat, and drains very well, so Fido isn’t muddy when he gets back in the Doggy Truckster. Could use a few obstacles for the 4 legged visitors and an enclosed portable fire hydrant for the 2 legged visitors.
Genuinely surprised not only to see so few reviews but even more how when we went the park was vacant. Huge area, bigger than we’ve ever had at a dog park. Our girl loved it. Especially great if you have a more reactive dog since it seems to not be very frequented.
Pretty sad. Dog poop everywhere. For a dog park which is only open to soldiers, dependents, and retirees – it’s dirtier than any civilian dog park. I would avoid coming here unless your into navigating minefields.
It’s an extremely big dog park. It’s open with a few trees… My dog definitely enjoyed her time.
park is kept clean and it’s a really good size. never too busy, most dogs I’ve seen have been maybe five at once? good option for a more skittish/temperamental pooch, and kept really clean. can get water from the hydrant just outside of the park but you may want to bring a water dish.
