🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Located in the scenic Ann Morrison Park, Together Treasure Valley Dog Island is one of Boise’s largest and most popular dog parks, loved by both canine companions and their humans. This expansive, off-leash paradise features separate fenced areas for small or shy dogs and general-use sections for pups of all sizes. Unique for its island setting, dogs can splash, swim, and play in the park’s natural pond (typically filled spring through fall), making it a top choice for dog owners looking for dog-friendly outdoor adventures in Boise.
The park boasts several amenities to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable visit—ample seating, covered shelters, poop bag stations, and plenty of trash bins throughout. Parking is often plentiful, though it can be limited during larger events at Ann Morrison Park. Dog Island offers a welcoming and social environment, with shaded areas, sun spots, and diverse play zones, perfect for making new friends, both furry and human. This dog park is a go-to destination for pet-friendly fun, off-leash play, and relaxing walks along Boise’s Greenbelt.
This dog park is hands-down my favorite in Boise. I was worried at first, because it didn’t look completely fenced in, but where there are not fences- there is water surrounding the park. This is a huge area for pups to run, swim, and play. Can not recommend this park highly enough! We even made a couple of good human friends while visiting there! 🙂
My furry baby Coco and I Love it here each day! He knows when we’re coming into the park as he loves his social time with other furry babies! Great place to enjoy social and play time off leash for furry babies and their owners!
Dog Island is a spacious, general-use dog park with a separate, smaller area at the southeast end specifically for small or shy dogs. It’s a popular spot, and parking is usually ample—unless there’s an event at the nearby park, which can often limit parking, especially during the summer months.
Each entrance features double gates waste bags. Portable toilets are available just outside the park entrances, but there are also permanent restrooms a short walk away near the playground.
During the winter months, heavy use combined with precipitation often leaves the turf muddy and damaged. Many locals opt to take their dogs to the large, open field at Ann Morrison Park instead. This field, located southeast of the Ann Morrison Fountain, is designated for off-leash use during winter only. It’s a great oopt, as long as your dog isn’t an escape artist, as it helps preserve the turf at Dog Island during the vulnerable months.
The pond at Dog Island is typically drained during the winter and refilled in the spring, though I’m not sure if the exact schedule. The natural water features make this a popular spot for ducks and geese, so if you or your dog have issues with the birds—or the mess they leave behind—this might not be the best choice for you.
Maybe my favorite dog park in the US. Always bustling with dogs of all sizes. Different play areas, shade, sun, everything your dog might need. Love that the doggoes have the whole island!
This dog park is by far the biggest and the best dog park I have been to. I did give it 4 stars because I think the city should put in a couple of fountains in the water. The still water can breed mosquitoes, the dogs do drink from that water even when trying to deter them from doing so. I. Addition, a lot of dog owners do not pick up after their dogs. There are several places to grab a dog bag and lots of trash cans. The park has benches and covered areas for people to sit and enjoy watching their dogs. There are several water landings where dogs could jump into the water or wade in the shallow area. The park is amazing. I just wish citizens of Boise would be more responsible for cleaning up after their pets. I suggest this park for all size dogs. There is even a separate park that is fenced off so that smaller dogs or not so social dogs can still enjoy being off leash. I suggest you bring your pups but be sure to clean up after them.
