Yellow Creek State Park in Penn Run, Pennsylvania, is a favorite local destination for outdoor-loving families and their dogs. Known for its inviting forested landscape and scenic lake, the park offers dog owners a chance to explore pet-friendly trails, picnic areas, and peaceful green spaces. Dogs are welcome on-leash throughout the park, making it a top choice for those seeking dog-friendly hiking or a relaxing day in nature.
The park features numerous amenities to enhance your visit, including barbecue grills, picnic tables, a playground for the kids, and clean public restrooms. Families enjoy spacious areas for gatherings, while its accessibility options and picnic pavilions ensure a comfortable experience for all. While it does not have a fenced dog park or dedicated off-leash areas, Yellow Creek State Park stands out for its welcoming atmosphere, scenic beauty, and family-friendly environment.
My wife and I paddled the west side of the lake on our SUP boards. Very clean water, boats were not a huge disruption and were respectful. Stopped off and had lunch on an embankment that was shady and cool. Definitely will be back to explore more.
Went to the beach and it was a wonderful evening!! Very kind people I had my daughter, son and a friend of mines daughter and they are all little kids and man actually seen my struggling to walk them all into the water and offered to help which was super kind and has never happened to me!! We had a cookout at woodland pavilion everything was super taken care of grass cut, garbage cans, grills were clean! I’m from Altoona and live in Butler and Yellow Creek is about halfway and from now on this is where my family will be meeting to get together
Stayed in Yurt D for a weekend. Weather was rainy but was still a good weekend. The lake is nice and the Yurt was clean and comfortable. I wish it was a little closer to the lake for night fishing but it seems the cabins are more setup for this.
We stayed in a yurt, and it was great! Our (extended) family rented 3 of the 4 yurts. The yurt area is secluded and quiet with a big green space for kids to run around. It’s such a family-friendly way to camp! The yurts have (surprisingly comfortable) bunk beds that sleep a total of 5 (plus room for a pack n play, if you need one), a fridge, a stovetop, heat, and electricity. Feels more like a little cabin. My only cons were that it was a tad far from the bathroom area, and the website lacks directions. (We all got lost on the way…) Beautiful park and a great camping experience!

Lots of boat ramps, trails and picnic areas. I like the dragonfly pond. Most of the trails is overgrown with fallin trees everywhere. No benches. The restrooms open way too late in the year. I like the option to rent a kayak or boat. The lake is pretty.
