Located at 10 St Marys Pl, right in the heart of downtown Rochester, Washington Square Park offers visitors a welcoming, dog-friendly oasis amid the city streets. This small but vibrant park is best known for its historic sculptures, open spaces, and community gatherings. Whether you’re out for a stroll with your pup or seeking a pet-friendly spot to relax, Washington Square Park provides a convenient option for dog owners in Rochester, New York.
The park features wheelchair accessible entrances and parking, making it easy for everyone to enjoy. While not a dedicated dog park, leashed dogs are welcome, and there are benches where owners can rest while their pets explore. The park’s lush, green lawns may get a bit muddy after rain, but for urban dog walks or quick play sessions, it delivers an easy access pet-friendly space. Its location makes it a popular spot for events and rallies, so expect occasional crowds on weekends or during special gatherings.
Beautiful small park in the middle of downtown…..with sculpture and cannon!
I rode in Rochester’s first “Crow Ride” that started and ended at the park. Perfect spot for gathering for a ride…or for crow watching as they visit the park and surrounding roof tops.

Nice, small inner city park. A few benches to enjoy a coffee or feed the pigeons. We’ve been there a couple times for social justice events, and once to do an open singaround in the park. Nothing special, but a bit of green amid the city’s buildings is a nice break.
I was there for a sister rally to the Womens March on Washington. It’s a nice park, very open. A little muddy because of the January thaw. The city and organizers did a great job putting the rally together and the location was conducive to the event. It was a little disappointing that police closed down exits off the 490, causing some folks to be late or miss the rally entirely, but I understood why they did it. The exits ran right into the crowd and could have caused a safety issue. Great event, great location.
