🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Ellison Dog Park is one of the top destinations for dog owners in Rochester, New York. This Monroe County gem features multiple fenced areas including a dedicated space for small dogs (under 25 pounds), a gravel area for all dogs, and a large, open park section complete with benches, a pet-friendly walking path, and a scenic pond for adventurous pups to swim and play.
The park is known for its friendly community, robust off-leash options, and accessibility—both the lot and entrance are wheelchair accessible. There is a membership system, which supports park maintenance and helps ensure a welcoming, well-monitored environment. Pet owners enjoy free poop bags and waste stations, and love the opportunity to walk the shaded trails or relax on the benches as their dogs socialize. Be aware that after heavy rain, some areas can become muddy or flooded, and a post-pond bath may be necessary for some pups!
Best dog park we have visited so far in Monroe County. This dog park has an area for small dogs, large dogs, and then has a pond/trail area for all dogs. The pond/trail area is perfect because you can walk around and get some energy while the dogs play. Plenty of dogs were enjoying swimming in the pond!
Wonderful to have the Dog Park. The dogs and people are pretty well behaved and friendly.
Definitely a decent dog park with lots of options and open space. The pond might make dog stinky and need a bath after. Also after heavy rains, it could become flooded in the park.
Love this place! My dog and I went to this park and at first she was confused/shy by being leash free and also seeing so many dogs at the same time. She caught on quickly and started to really enjoy the park tremendously!
Your Membership fee helps with the cost of the maintenance and all those doggie bags they give away for free and pick up of the garbage.
The Membership also helps with “soft” monitoring of who is entering/using the park for if any problems arise.
So if Non Members use the park and there is a problem, it would be very difficult/ if not impossible for the county to follow up with the owners.
Great park. Three areas: one gravel section for dogs under 25 pounds, another gravel section for all dogs, and a gorgeous park area with benches, a walking path very popular with the human folk, and a pond.
