Safe place for a good walk.

Really beautiful place to hang out or walk. There was a really great ambience with people meeting with their dogs, kids riding scooters, and plenty of trail path. The river was very peaceful and pretty, and there is boat docks for launching canoes.

Unfortunately Greenway Farms has declined. As a regular walker and dog owner for the last 18 years, the past few years have included: HEAVY drinking at he Quarry ( Monday morning trash ) during the summer is the worst, there are top-shelf empty bottles, beer cans, canned alcohol drinks and clothing in the Quarry area and used condoms, as well as the area when one is leaving and the cars are parked. Dogs are off leash everywhere. There are less than 6 signs with city code as it pertains to leashing your dog in the entire Park. In defense of visitors, the signage is not placed appropriately for visitors to see them. There is no presence of a Park Ranger. A Park Ranger can enforce code. Several years ago, we were instructed to contact 311 to report issues, then instructed to stop. Each contact was given a case number . Then we were told to reach out to the City Non-Emergencey Police. Occasionally an officer came, but typically not. The Police then told us to contact the Mayors Office. Which we did and nothing happened. Park Rangers use to lock the Gates ( there were two) at dusk and open them at dawn. One Gate was damaged and it was removed and the other is still operational, but no longer locked. Individuals come in at night and do donut holes, ripping up the grass in the Park. One of the most offensive actions to this Passive Park is the dog feces that is EVERYWHERE. City code 26-7B-Animals in Parks is posted and blatantly ignored. There is a NULL fine for each offense and yet neither McKamey or Law Enforcement enforce. City Code states that McKamey and Police are to enforce. Dog poop bag stations are placed through out the Park and are not used. Dog feces is full of parasites and as the feces desinegrates it contaminates the ground and water in the Park. This is dangerous for all wildlife that live and travel thru the area. To include: Deer, turtles, squirrels, chipminks, rabbits, migratory birds, groundhogs, raccoons, coyotes, all sorts of bugs and fox.

NO ONE city agency has stepped up to address the issue, it is just passed along the food chain. Greenway Farms is for everyone to enjoy. Those who like dogs and those who are afraid of dogs, both have the right to feel safe while walking . Wildlife who was there first has the right to have a safe place to be WILD!

Please reach out to the Mayor’s Office and ask them to do their JOB.

I love going here, either to walk my dogs or go swimming with friends. It’s a great public space, with lots of trails (including ones with shade because we all know the Tennessee heat could kill).

This park is excellent, offering plenty of space for picnics and easy-to-navigate trails. It’s always clean and well-maintained, with ample parking. I love visiting, as it’s just a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Hixson.
