🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Located at 1811 Church St, Oakwood Park is a beloved community space in Hamilton, Illinois that welcomes both families and pet owners. With a wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot, it’s perfect for everyone—including those walking their dogs or seeking a pet-friendly outdoor spot. The park features spacious grassy areas, a well-maintained playground with modern slides and swings, and a shelter house with picnic tables, making it an inviting option for dog owners and families alike.
Oakwood Park stands out for its cleanliness, maintained lawn, and relaxing atmosphere. While it is not specifically a fenced dog park, pet parents who are confident in their dog’s obedience can enjoy on-leash or potentially off-leash play, though it’s recommended to check current city leash laws. There’s a drinking fountain for hydration and shaded areas under the shelter, providing refuge on warm days. As a neighborhood park, it’s an excellent option for those seeking a dog-friendly gathering place or looking for pet-friendly trails in Hamilton, IL.
This is a great park with a shelter house, picnic tables, and drinking fountain. It’s usually kept clean and the grass mowed. This is not the best park for toddlers as there are a couple of very tall slides and several tall places where a small child could fall from. There is also only one baby swing. Overall though, my family always has a great time here!
Had a rest and a snack one afternoon here after not coming to this park for around 30 years, and I was impressed. Hamilton has put in new playground equipment here too, moved the basketball court, and now it’s actually 2 courts. And it was well maintained. It’s a porta potty for a restroom, but I’m a guy so I can live with that, but it’s serviced frequently.
Now realize that this is a smaller, neighborhood park, and it’s nothing fancy but if you live in this neighborhood,I’m sure you appreciate it a bunch…
If your dog is obedient and you can go without a leash, this is possible here, but I’d check the city laws on that because I’m not sure about it,but there are no busy streets for a couple of blocks from here,so you don’t have to worry about your pet getting hit by a car.
Sorry I’ll have to get it together and remember to take pics when I’m visiting different places..
