🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Located along the river in Chillicothe, Illinois, Walnut Dog Park is a hidden gem for local dog owners seeking a peaceful and spacious place for their pets to play. The park features both a small dog area and a large dog area, each fully fenced and shaded by mature trees. Benches are available throughout the park so owners can relax and enjoy stunning river views while their dogs socialize.
Walnut Dog Park is known for its tranquil atmosphere, well-kept grass, and recent improvements such as better parking and signage. While the park does not have a water fountain or restrooms onsite, it offers ample room for off-leash play, making it an ideal spot for dog lovers seeking a quiet, natural setting in the Chillicothe area.
A lot of improvements to the park area! Better access and parking, better features, and better signage. One downfall of the park has always been the ‘professional’ Dog Trainers using it in their online trade, then staking claim to one of the fenced in areas. Hopefully that’s a thing of the past.

This is the kind of place you find and kinda don’t want to tell others about because it feels like a best kept secret 🫣 Beware of Mayfly season, but otherwise a beautiful dog park with a small dog and large dog section, both sides have large trees and decent shade, and the benches let you sit and look at river views.
No human bathroom on site, and you’ll need to bring your water for doggos and self, but for a simple dog park the location and setting are 10/10!
Great dog park, gorgeous view and lots of room for pups to run. Newer fences and lot, seems well maintained from our experiences.
We come here often to get away from it all, having the river here is scenic aswell.
The grass is kept up, lots of room, and great views of the river. Unfortunately no one is ever there when I am so my buddy has no one to play with. Still, a great relaxing dog park!
Nice quiet park for my dog to run around. Fences are secured around the perimeter. Gate going into small dog section has slightly been dug at, so possible for dogs to go under.
