Finally some nice weather. I couldn’t wait to get my dogs out. Went to the dog park and a gentleman with a breeding pair of Rottweilers was there. The male was aggressively attempting to jump every dog in there, make and female. Several people asked him to please control his dog and he wouldn’t even get up off the bench. I called the number for the park and was told to call animal control. Basically animal control said you take your dog at your own risk, although rule 11 is very clear. Guess I will look for a better park. Such a shame that we can’t enjoy the dog park in our own community.

11. Owners and dog handlers must have their dogs in sight and be in control of their dogs at all times. All humans and dogs engaged in altercations or aggression will be asked to leave. Cooperation between owners and dog handlers is expected.

A fairly active dog park with mostly friendly dogs and 99% responsible owners. We visit 1-2 times a week and only twice have I seen an aggressive or reactive dog, both times the owner immediately removed their pet from the equation. There is one guy with and rottie that wants to mount every female dog which is inconvenient, but my girl is fixed. My biggest complaint is the run area is mostly gravel which is rough on my pups paws. Otherwise we’d visit more often probably

This is a big dog park, although the small dog area is pathetic. There is a section of it that has some grass and lots of shade, which is nice. There’s a couple of awnings that make the very sunny days bearable. And it’s lovely and large with ample parking. So you’re wondering why I only gave it two stars? It’s because it’s not a particularly safe dog park. I’ve been there several times and unless it’s empty or with just a few small dogs in it, I don’t let my dog go in anymore. There are lots of really big dogs with bad owners, who don’t have control over their dogs. There are regular fights and aggressive skirmishes. I don’t mind dogs barking and working things out amongstthemselves, but I do mind bad owners who don’t have control over their dogs. That unfortunately is what has happened to Lakewood dog park. So, I would just recommend doing what I do. When you happen to be over in the metropark, stop in and see how many dogs are in the park. If there’s more than two or three small dogs, I wouldn’t risk the safety of your own dog nor the rudeness of the other owners who spend more time on their phone and chatting with each other than paying attention to their dogs. I’m sure their dogs are very nice, I always see this as an owner problem not a dog problem. And there are a lot of problematic owners here.

My daughter is here from another state and wanted to bring her pup to this dog park. She has been to lots of dog parks across the country and this one fails. There is only gravel, no grass, and a tiny covered area for shelter. No trees or trails or grass. Not an inviting place to bring your pet. There are bag dispensers for waste cleanup and water for the dogs. Sad that Lakewood didn’t spend some effort to make this a nice place for your pets or you.

Great location in the metro parks
Water fountain and two exits / entrances
9/10 times there are fun, well behaved dogs (and people).

There is nothing for the dogs to play or jump on and the majority of it is gravel that gets my dogs (and my shoes) coated in white chalk.
