As many trees down from Helene as standing, at least where we entered. Much like my backyard, just flatter. Will return!

Parking was limited, led to a private road. Woods is great. Hiked on a weekday before sunset and there was nobody there.

This area is currently closed due to the resent hurricane damage, which is a bummer because it looks like a really cool spot to explore. 🤷

There are 7 entrances to this area. I started at the Clark Road entrance. There is very little parking is available at this entrance. I only went about 1/4-1/2 mile, made a loop and headed back. The hills were steep and gutted so make sure to wear non slippery shoes. I’m told that not all the trails are like that. The trails themselves are not clearly marked so be sure to grab a map so you can keep track of where you are. And watch for horse manure! Unlike dogs, owners do not have to pick it up. .

This is a wonderful place to walk or ride a horse in the middle of the city. There seems to be endless miles to walk or ride and all of it, in nature, that feels so detached from the city. The terrain can be easy or physical depending on your choice to walk. A couple warnings, don’t go alone unless you are very capable. Also, if you don’t have a very good sense of direction, use a gps or other mapping app while you explore this true gem.
