California Hot Springs Resort – Not a Dog Park, but a Popular Local Retreat

The California Hot Springs Resort is a tranquil, historical spot tucked into the mountains of California Hot Springs, California. Known for its natural mineral pools, RV camping, and a rustic yet relaxing atmosphere, it caters to visitors looking to unwind, soak, and enjoy the serene landscape. Amenities include clean restrooms with hot mineral water, showers, running water, and a small store with necessities and treats for guests. The site is wheelchair accessible, offers public restrooms, and is good for kids, making it a welcoming destination for families camping or passing through the area.

While the resort attracts many who appreciate hiking and soaking, it is important for dog owners to know that dogs are not allowed on the property, even leashed or tied up. REVIEW UPDATED OCT 2019,

FIRST VISIT MAY, 2018 = 4 STARS
This is a humble, reasonably priced, fantastic gem tucked into the mountains.

I arrived late so I only had an hour in the pools, but really enjoyed it.

I camped there one night and loved it. It wasn’t crowded. The bathrooms were old but clean, with hot water coming directly from the mineral springs.

Several people in the reviews mentioned the staff was rude. I admit they sound a little grumpy, but I don’t think they are. I think they’re no-nonsense folks who were really helpful and friendly.

I’d stay again in a heartbeat!

SECOND ATTEMPTED VISIT SUMMER, 2019 = 1 STAR
with a much lower score for a horrible experience with not telling customers they were closed.

Summer 2019, I called and called the hot springs to confirm they were open. No one answered. I checked their website, which had no mention of being closed permanently or short term.

I assumed they were busy and drove 2 hours to the hot springs only to find they were closed — for a planned power outage by the local electric company. There was a note taped on the door saying they were closed. The note did not even say when they would reopen. Power trucks were everywhere in the area! Clearly this was a planned outage, possibly lasting several days.

I see no reason why the hot springs could not notify their customers they were closed.
1) get a digital voice mail and say you are closed! Be sure to include how long you are going to be closed.
2) update your website! Put a large pop up box saying your closed and for how many hours or days.

Plus, they no longer allows tents at their camp area- only RVs.
I don’t imagine I’ll every go back here, which is a shame because I really enjoyed my first visit.

We camped with another couple at a nearby campground and came here our second day.

Pros:
-It was great to use a real bathroom.
-They also have showers in the locker rooms.
-Their mini store has odds and ends we wound up needing.
-Salted Caramel Ice Cream was delicious
-The main pool felt great.
-Did not smell sulfuric and water was super soft
-Free water was available in the store for swimmers.
-Perfect for the day after a hike to sooth muscles.
-Had no issues with staff. Other reviews mentioned bad attitudes and discrimination. We were a mixed group of races. The ladies were not overly nice but weren’t rude either. They were very matter of fact but I tend to like that about people.

Other Facts:
-We went on a hot day, bring sandals to wear up to the waters edge. We burned our feet.
-NULL per person to swim
-Hot Tub closer to the road seemed much hotter
-They do not allow dogs (even well behaved on a leash tied up).

This is a great stop, especially for anyone camping at one of the dry campgrounds like we did. It may not be the Hilton of hot springs for some, but for us, it was perfect! Thank you for a great time, we’ll be back.

He was a little piece of history for you. I’ve loved looking at all these photos of California Hot Springs being complete. I lived at Laver market, which was the general store over by Pine Flats with my family. I was 12 years old now 62, and we used to have church meetings in the California Hot Springs when it was in complete and they started doing some renovations. Never thought they would finish that thing so it’s fun to look back and see the completed product. Fond memories.

This place was such a magical gem during my cross country trip with 2 small kids in tow.

I was towing my camper and they had great camping sites located across the street that was very secluded and private. Cell service was limited.

The pool and hot tubs were just heaven. The main pool was like bathwater while the other tubs had varying degrees of hot. Loved loved loved it.

Staff was pleasant and stay was very memorable. Would love to return someday.
