Pine Knoll Park, located along the scenic Lakeshore Ave near Lake Merritt in Oakland, California, is a popular spot for dog owners to stroll, enjoy a picnic, or take in the spectacular lake views. The park features shady areas perfect for relaxing on hot days and provides a calming, peaceful atmosphere just a short walk from downtown Oakland. Visitors often enjoy pet-friendly trails and plenty of green space, making it a great destination for dog walking and family outings alike.
While Pine Knoll Park stands out for its lakeside setting and vibrant activity—especially on weekends—it is important to note that the restrooms are often in poor condition or locked. Parking is available nearby, and string lights along Lake Merritt create a romantic ambiance in the evenings. Occasional vendors can be found on busy days, and there are several places to sit and enjoy a picnic. However, visitors should be aware of the presence of geese, which can result in some areas with goose droppings; after rainfall, parts of the park may also be muddy. Pine Knoll Park is an excellent, dog-friendly getaway in the heart of Oakland, cherished for its views and accessibility.
A nice place to visit with great views
Very cute place to sit and have a picnic. Went on a Sunday afternoon. There were even vendors out selling their wares. Love you was beautiful and the area was very well populated. The only down side was the restrooms were locked.
Perfect park to walk your dog, enjoy a picnic, or have a small gathering. Unfortunately, it has been damaged multiple times by atvs and dirt bikers constantly driving on the park, doing donuts, and covering parked cars in dirt and mud. The park should put a fence in to deter large amounts of vehicles in. 7/10
A fabulous place to go with your family to walk or get exercise. Take your girl in the evening string of lights around the lake very romantic if you’re that kind of guy. Or if you just are very visual visual person. It’s just nice. It’s just it’s calming. It’s peaceful. Definitely go to Lake Merritt at night.
You cant smell the lake, but you can definitely smell the toilets. Grossest bathrooms you can imagine with a door that does not lock. Goose poop covers the hill, and needles are tucked nicely into the roots of the trees. But at least there’s shade. And you have a nice view.
