🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
If you’re searching for a dog park in Clayton, California that’s both scenic and pet-friendly, Clayton Dog Park is a wonderful choice. Nestled just off Marsh Creek Road, this dog park offers a quiet retreat with stunning views of Mount Diablo. Although it’s slightly hidden and requires a walk down a paved, cross-sloped trail, local dog owners appreciate its tranquil setting away from the busy road, making it a favorite spot for off-leash play.
The park is divided into separate fenced areas for small and large dogs, features multiple shaded benches, and boasts a unique agility playground for active pups. Owners enjoy covered picnic tables, water spigots for dogs, and plenty of space for dogs to run and socialize. While parking is across a busy street and restroom facilities are not available, friendly visitors, waste stations, and shaded seating make this a welcoming stop for both dogs and their humans looking for a pet-friendly adventure near the East Bay’s beautiful trails.
A bit hidden. Have to walk a small trail to find it. However my two dogs enjoyed it. The park features tan bark ground(not turf), multiple drinking fountains, many benches both shaded and not, and an enclosed seperate area for small and large dogs. In addition, the park features playground for dog tricks for your perfect show dog practice area which my dogs are not so didn’t really use. Has a great view of Mount Diablo.
This dog park is on a gorgeous site but INACCESSIBLE. You have to park across a busy street to access. As a result, when we showed up during prime time Monday at 5:20pm there were no other dogs here. ☹️. It does, however, have four covered areas with picnic tables, even tho with the long walk most ppl wouldn’t come here in the rain.
Never too busy and everyone it’s very courteous. I have a 7 month old blue heeler who has a lot of energy. He is a sweetheart with people and great with kids. He is a little wiry of dogs he does not know at first because he was attacked 3 months ago while being walked… not at the dog park but everyone seems to be okay with me letting him slowly get uses to their dogs. Plenty of room to run with 3 water spigots, shaded seating and a smaller dog area to take small dogs and puppies still in training. Will hidden from the road so it is quiet.
A little difficult to find (no parking lot, you have to park across Marsh Creek Rd or on Regency Rd and follow the trail to the park). But nice size, big and little dog sections, plenty of water faucets and waste stations. Friendly people! Downside for some is that it’s mostly bark, so if your dog has sensitive feet like mine, might not be the best choice.
Clayton website doesn’t give you directions, but once you find it there is a sign providing direction on where to park.
This dog park seems basically fine within itself. The large dog area is long enough for a big dog to have a good sprint. There are picnic tables for the people. I would not suggest eating in a dog park, but it is a place to put your leash. There is water available to water the dogs, and even a bulletin board with information for local dog owners.
The problems are outside the fences.
The only access is to hike in. Coming from the north it is a long walk. The trail is paved in asphalt, but is very cross sloped. It can be hard to judge, but I thought the cross slope might have averaged as high as 5%. It is NOT an accessible route!
There are no restrooms for the humans.
Besides the hike from the nearest street, they actually have a poster on the bulletin board requesting that people park even further away! They ask that people park across Marsh Creek Road by the ball fields.
Why don’t they just build a dog park over at Clayton Community Park where there are accessible paths, restrooms, and parking lots?
