Discover the pet-friendly Ora E. Anderson Nature Trail, nestled along OH-278 in Carbon Hill, Ohio. This scenic, flat trail follows an old railroad bed and offers over a mile of gentle hiking, making it a fantastic spot for dog owners looking to explore nature with their furry friends. The dog-friendly hiking path takes you through beautiful wetlands and nature preserves, and is noted for its abundant bird-watching opportunities—so don’t forget your binoculars!
While there are no fenced off-leash areas or dedicated dog amenities, leashed dogs are welcome on the trail. Along the way, you’ll find benches for resting and literary signage, including short poems inspired by local author Ora E. Anderson. Parking is available for 7-8 vehicles at the trailhead, and the flat, even path makes the trail accessible for people of varying abilities. Whether you’re enjoying a peaceful walk with your pup or introducing a mobility-impaired friend to nature, this pet-friendly trail is a must-visit in southeast Ohio.
Would have been nice if the parking lot had a sign that pointed towards the trail, we figured it out obviously.
Our own fault not applying bug spray before, we had to turn back fairly soon.
Reading the short poems was pleasant.
What a pleasant surprise – very much enjoyed the signage. Would like to read more of Ora Anderson’s work.
As another reviewer said, it was hard to find the trail and a sign would be nice to have. You have to walk back to the road to find the beginning of the trail. It’s about a 1 mile walk, half a mile out and then half a mile back on a nice level, straight trail.
Beautiful wetlands and nature preserve. The trail is a little over a mile to the end and back.Monday Creek which the trail follows and ends at is also very scenic. There aren’t any amenities but the parking area can accommodate 7 or 8 vehicles. There are a few benches along the trail.
Little slice of heaven. A good place to take a friend or relative that is mobility impaired. Being an old railroad road bed it is essentially flat. Bring some binoculars for some good wetland bird watching.
