FAQ for Ulu La‘au (Waimea Nature Park) in Waimea Hawaii:
This place is really beautiful and heavenly. Only one negative thing just happened where I was having a little picnic under a huge Eucalyptus in the park and one of the volunteers said I could be there?? I was pretty confused bc it was part of the park and clearly a perfect spot for a picnic, no signs or fences or anything, he just said I wasn’t allowed to sit there. Only about 50 ft from a public bench, not in some out of the way area. I asked him if it was part of the pubic park and he said yes, then I asked why I wouldnt be allowed to be there and he couldn’t give a straight answer. It was a heavenly little spot with great shade right next to the creek, no indication why people wouldn’t be allowed to be there, perfectly public place in the park not in any designated restricted area or anything like that. Kinda on the lookout now whenever I come to chill here bc there isn’t really any indication where it is ok to be and where it isn’t.
I remember how beautiful this park and the trail that runs through it used to be. About 5 years ago the little stream used to be full of water. There were gorgeous nasturtiums and morning glories everywhere. Today the stream is completely dried up and the little flowers are really struggling. There is a nice, grassy area with numerous shady picnic tables. However, it’s weird that there are no restrooms, not even a port-a-potty.
Beautiful quiet park in the middle of town. No washroom facilities.
It is quite and adorable park. You could grab some lunch sack or sandwiches and come with your family for enjoying the lunch or dinner. It’s not big but would be good park that you could hang out with your family. There is not a trash can and nor a toilet. You need to bring out all the trash belong to you when you leave.
Wonderful park, has interesting wildlife. There is on particular rooster who crows on this propertyQuite an impressive bird
