Mountain Park in Dover is a relatively new, mostly undeveloped park. It’s a long skinny section of wooded hillside that stretches from South Morris St. on the southwest end of the park, to Salem St. on the northeast end of the park. (There is no access to the trail system from Salem St. Please do not park there.)The lookout point at the top of the hill has been a popular destination for locals for many years. It was accessible by hiking along some old unmarked paths in the woods. The white trail spans the length of the park. You will find several relatively large holes in the ground in this area. No one can find any documentation explaining the mysterious holes. They could be exploratory holes, dug by someone hoping to find a good spot for iron mining. They could be miniature quarries, used to provide rocks to build the foundations of nearby houses. Who knows??Make sure you make your way up to the viewpoint at the top of the hill. Both the White and Blue Trails will take you there. The best place to park is the Christadelphian Church located at 322 South Morris St. Randolph, NJ 07869. From the church parking lot, walk a couple hundred feet north on South Morris St. past one house. There is a small section of woods just past the first house. You will see the beginning of the white trail marked with three white blazes on a large maple tree.
