FAQ for Dog Beach in Del Mar California:
I didn’t take a dog but the beach was so nice, not too busy, clean, lots of dogs and owners there, lots of shells. The sand was very nice, the walk to the water is longer than it looks so be prepared for the trip! Over all beautiful!
My year and a half puppy loves Del Mar dog beach! From 6am-8am parking is free, and there are a ton of sweet dogs to play with. Dogs must be on-leash during the summer but starting Labor Day, they are allowed off leash. My dog is deathly afraid of the water but the sandy area is huge, so he has plenty of room to run around and walk up and down the beach. Del Mar is beautiful and the beach is full of dogs that are having the time of their lives!
A beautiful beach with plenty of space for dogs to run and play. We drove all the way from Palm Springs expecting a true off-leash dog beach, especially after seeing so many happy dogs in the photos online. The beach itself is stunning, with soft sand and gentle waves perfect for splashing. However, the sign at the entrance clearly states that all dogs must be on a leash, which was a huge disappointment. While most people were following the rules, there were a few owners who let their dogs roam freely, which made it difficult to relax with our own leashed pup. It’s a great spot if you’re looking for a dog-friendly beach where you can walk your dog on a leash, but if you’re hoping for a true off-leash experience, you might want to look elsewhere. It’s a shame because with a clear, off-leash section, this could easily be a five-star destination.PS: parking is almost NULL for 1 hour and half. THINK TWICE!
We had such a great time at the dog beach! The wide open space was perfect for our pups—they had an absolute blast running around and playing in the sand. My daughter was thrilled with all the beautiful shells she found, and the kids couldn’t get enough of the water. It was the perfect mix of fun and relaxation for the whole family.Next time, we’re planning to check out the fair too—it sounds like the perfect addition to an already amazing day. Can’t wait to come back!
Great place to hang out with your dogReally nice beach with Portopotties, doggie bag dispensers, volleyball nets, and lots of area to chill, play ball with your dog, or just walk along the beach. Beautiful dog friendly beach. Parking is pretty expensive (NULL/hr) but not all of the parking is pay.
