FAQ for Kearny Mesa Dog Park in San Diego California:
Great park and very friendly people. My dogs love the adventures they have with the other dogs and come home exhausted. (They sleep for hours afterward, and I can get some work done around the house.)My only complaint is that there is absolutely no grass at the park. My dogs come home covered in dirt (and dog slobber) or mud when it rains. Also the handle is missing from the water faucet. Playing puppies need water!
This review has nothing to do with the enclosed dog park. However, it DOES have to do with the other fields. The Greater San Diego Whippet Club has chosen this venue to hold their “race practices.” The venue is very good, no gopher holes or any other imperfections that could injure an animal. Heck, I was so impressed with the park (and the people) that I ran my own dog here, just for fun. (He’s an AKC FastCAT “D” runner, so he’s no ’52 DeSoto!) There are also Silken Windhounds, Scottish Deer Hounds, Whippets and Greyhounds. Here are some pics from last Sunday’s practice…
Really large dog park for all size dogs. There is no separation of size or weight. There are a bunch of benches and chairs here, mostly placed under the trees to catch shade. The center of the park is all dirt, no shade or trees, and the outskirts of the park (with trees) have weeds underneath. Overall, still an alright park because it’s huge and plenty of room for any size dog. There is also a cement building bathroom for humans directly outside the back of the dog park! Super awesome.
I’ve been taking my dog here for years. It is a large dirt park that is completely fenced in. There are double gates for entrances on either side of the park. There is a drinking fountain, jug refill spigot, and bathrooms. The dog park has many metal bowls and jugs of water. There are benches and plastic chairs for sitting and some trees for shade. The dog park is just one area, there is no separation of small and large dogs.I’ve always gone when it’s quiet and there are only a few dogs there. I’ve never had any issues with dogs, but again I go when it’s quiet. Like all dog parks, it’ll depend on the owners who are there as to whether they and their dogs are ready and safe for a dog park.
Perfect playground for dogs to play and socialize. The entrance is double-gated, so you enter/exit by opening then closing one gate at a time to prevent dogs from running out of fenced Park. Nothing fancy just a dirt area that is completely encircled with a chain link fence to keep all the dogs from running off too far. I believe the park is open 24/7 but not sure. There are chairs and benches for owners to sit and watch their dogs play. The park is big enough for even large to dogs to run at full speed. Lots if dog bowls around and a water faucet near restrooms to keep the jowls full of water.
