Great cool down spot during warmer weather riding
Quiet place to hike. If you want privacy, this is it. Lovely area. Can’t wait to go back.
Started at Happy Valley and rode 40+ miles. For the most part the trial is nice. There are some sections in this stretch where the gravel is a bit loose. Lot’s of places you can primitive camp but the best places was after the 30mm there are 3 or 4 nice open primitive sites with table and firepits. Lot’s of awesome tunnels! I definitely recommend the trail. (At least the 40 miles I rode)
I rode the trail east to west as part of a longer multi day tour. Carried touring gear on a hybrid bicycle. It worked good, some areas were rough but generally good surface. Wish they could surface it all with the fine limestone surface. Scenery was great, camped near Petroleum and was lulled to sleep by whippoorwills .The photo of the truss bridge is not from this trail, that bridge is on the West Fork River Trail near Westchester.
I rode from East to West. I loved all the tunnels. The trail is in pretty good shape. There are not many people out here. I mostly saw locals getting on the trail close the little towns. Plenty of streams to filter water from. A few little stores along the way incase you need to resupply.
