It’s really too bad to leave this place a low review. Because if I was leaving it 4 months ago, it would be a resounding 5 star review… But it is what it is. Anyone that knows Barndoor, knows that the ex management, with their adorable lil puppy Appa, and the INCREDIBLE team members, are what made this place what it was. Unfortunately, the entire summer staff and the long-term management have left the place all together. This is really such a sad thing to see. No way this place will be the same without them. Especially the ex manager. With them all gone, I would highly reconsider a stay here. It also appears that the general opinion of the hostel from the locals and village population is quite polarizing, to say the least…. 😬If you have no previous history with Barndoor, then I think you will probably go and have a 5 star stay. But if you know, you know.Rattlesnake campground around the corner is what I would recommend. Across the street from the crag, shade, and most importantly a welcoming and friendly staff and ownership. 👍

On our way back home, we decided to try out this hostel for the night, and were glad we did !!! We met Dave, the owner and his father Bob when we came in… Very nice guys and most accommodating to St the least !!! We were shown around the hostel and where things were, and how things worked at a hostel, since this was our first time staying at one… They made us feel at home and very welcoming… We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND, THE BARN DOOR HOSTEL !!!

The Barn Door Hostel is one of the most special places I’ve ever stayed. From the moment you arrive, you’re welcomed like family. The atmosphere is warm, laid-back, and full of character—you can feel the love and intention that went into creating this space. The location couldn’t be better. Nestled right in the heart of Rumney, it’s only minutes from the climbing crags and surrounded by the kind of natural beauty New Hampshire is famous for. Whether you’re here to climb, hike, or just relax in the White Mountains, it’s the perfect home base.Inside, the hostel strikes the perfect balance of cozy and communal. The bunks are comfortable and clean, and there’s plenty of room to spread out. The shared spaces—especially the kitchen and common area—are designed to bring people together. You’ll find travelers, climbers, and outdoor lovers from all over. The giant barn doors that open into the common area, sweep the entire structure with fresh mountain air. At night, the sky is lit up with hundreds of stars. It is a dream. What really sets Barn Door apart, though, is the energy of the people who run it. They genuinely care about the guests and the community they’ve built. It’s the kind of place where you arrive as a stranger but leave feeling like you’re part of something bigger. If you’re looking for more than just a place to crash—if you want an experience, a sense of belonging, and a true connection to the Rumney nature scene—this is it. I can’t recommend the Barn Door Hostel highly enough.

Wonderful campground! Extremely clean campground in a beautiful setting with a swimming hole. Hot shower, clean drinking water, WiFi and charging stations for phones. Great place for bird watchers with the Quincy Bog just down the road. All the staff are extremely friendly. Highly recommended

Dave is the man and puts so much love into this place. Vibes are great, facilities are clean, there are thoughtful touches everywhere, and the stargazing is unreal on a clear night. There’s a free outdoor calisthenics gym onsite which you’ll love. Also the sauna on the weekends is so relaxing especially when switching back and forth with dipping in the creek. You won’t be disappointed!
