Good place to exercise out of., with scenic views of the Mississippi
Went to Roberto’s restaurant on River Road for lunch. Saw this little park adjacent with a small path up the levee. Had a bench to sit and admire the view of the river. Fun little aside.
There really isn’t much to say about the levee… I go walking over there in the evening.. I wish there was more black top to walk on the path it just abruptly ends at one point and if you want to continue you have to walk on gravel rocks and grass.. But other than that no complaints
This is my walking place. Peace and beauty!
Great paved trail on top of the levee. There’s a small parking lot, solar-powered lights, and benches. However, this trailhead is not handicap accessible. There’s a paved ramp at the southeast terminus of the trail that connects to River Road. There’s also a paved ramp connecting the trail to River Road at Bayou Paul Lane. But there’s no (paved) ramp at the trail’s northwest terminus. In total, the levee trail is a mile paved. When I went, a few joggers and another biker were using the trail, which I thought was pretty good for such a small town. There’s a park at this trailhead as well, with play equipment for little kids. I can’t wait for this to connect with Baton Rouge. If you’re on a bike, the southeast terminus of this trail is less than 2 miles from the historic St. Gabriel Catholic Church, one of the oldest in Louisiana. There’s a ramp down to River Road at the end of the levee trail. If it’s a bright and clear day, proceed (very very carefully) down River Road (no shoulder) and it will be on the left. Make sure you’re visible to cars in some way, I cannot emphasize that enough.
