The lake itself is pleasant, but not rustic as it has houses, cottages, businesses amd so on on most shorelines. For more natural locations, visit nearby Lake Superior State Park, Rio Reservoir or Mongaup Pond. Water quality is good and clear, perhaps as there is a local sewer district and less septic seep. Luna, my little dog, and I saw a bald eagle and a blue heron. The lake was once a fishing mecca and still attracts anglers. Swimming is prohibited at this launch, which is the only public lake access. Lake Superior SP has a better beach and is a short drive away.
