My wife and I drove around Stockbridge, MA today and happened upon a unique trail, Ice Glen Trail. It was a delightful day and we thoroughly enjoyed the hike along with our lab Greta. We couldn’t have asked for a better fall day. The sun was out and the weather was great!

In some spots wooden bridges help you along. It is possible to see ice along shady areas well into the late spring.Although the trail is only .2 miles long it does take some time to complete. The trail is often damp and wet, so it is a good idea to wear hiking boots and bring trekking poles. Watch your footing as well.The Ice Glen Trail connects the Laura’s Tower trail and the Mary V Flynn Trail. If you’re parking on Ice Glen Road the parking lot is small and has room for about five vehicles. You will also walk up a private driveway, which has a sign at the end marking where the Ice Glen Trail starts. Just be aware that it’s not a flat trail the entire way and take caution when the rocks may be wet and slippery. There’s easily accessible — though limited — parking on one end that starts at Park Street and a few off-street spots on Ice Glen Road. It’s also nice to hike the trail from Park Street and then loop back by walking along the scenic Ice Glen Road to Route 7. There’s a sidewalk on one side of the bridge on Route 7, but you do need to cross the road to get to it, and Route 7 can be busy, but it’s not too bad.
