The Carpenter Bypass Trail System in Lorane, Oregon is a well-maintained, pet-friendly destination perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and their dogs. Known for its diverse trail network, the park offers scenic hiking and mountain biking routes through a beautiful Oregon forest—making it a popular spot for dog owners looking for a dog-friendly hiking experience. While it’s famed for its mountain biking trails, leashed dogs are welcome to join you on your forest adventures, offering both exercise and fresh air for pets and owners alike.
There is convenient parking available at the south lot and a double pit toilet for human visitors, but no running water, so don’t forget to bring water for yourself and your dog. The area tends to be well maintained by local volunteers, including recent storm cleanup to keep the trails open and enjoyable. Enjoy year-round access to these trails, rain or shine, with options for both beginners and experienced hikers or bikers.
Well-maintained mountain biking trail system with trails for every level, from beginner to advanced! We are here at least once a week with the local student mountain biking team, and it is really fun to ride, with enough trail to create a variety of challenges.

Beautiful place to escape the sometimes hustle and bustle of Eugene. There’s cell service near the first parking lot, if you’re into things like plant identification.

There’s something for all experience levels here. Tons of trails and well maintained. It’s a fun one
Great place to get started mountain biking. Much more variety than in the past. Disciples of Dirt (DOD) does a great job putting in a lot of work out here.
Update Feb ’24 – major storm brought down a lot of trees all over Oregon including here. DOD have done a massive amount of work and the trails are mostly open and clear. This is while on the drive over there are still trees that nearly reach the fog line on the drive in, which to me says a ton. Still a great rain or shine riding area, and my youngest was hooting and hollering “best day ever” by the bottom of the downhill.
