If you’re searching for a scenic dog park in Luray, Virginia, the Pass Mountain Loop Trail is a rewarding choice for you and your canine companion. Located near the Shenandoah National Park and easily accessible from the Luray entrance, this pet-friendly trail offers a peaceful hiking environment in a moss-covered forest. The loop is short—about 0.25 to 0.3 miles—making it perfect for casual strolls or quick fresh air breaks with your dog. A highlight is the picturesque overlook with stunning views of the Shenandoah Valley and a gorgeous waterfall on the trail, enhancing the experience for both you and your pup.
This park is also family-friendly, accommodating children as young as toddlers (with supervision), and features a well-marked hiking path. While the overlook at the trailhead is wheelchair accessible, the hiking trail itself is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Take note that facilities like restrooms, water fountains, or built-in dog park equipment are not available. Parking is limited but conveniently located at the scenic overlook. Pass Mountain Loop Trail stands out as one of the best dog-friendly hiking spots in Luray for those seeking a quiet, natural escape.
Gorgeous waterfall on the trail!
Did not go too far, my kids got hungry, but it was very beautiful.
This place offers a small number of parking spaces at an overlook with a beautiful view of the Shenandoah Valley. It’s also a trailhead for one of the easier hikes at Shenandoah National Park. The trail is well marked and we have taken our children on it since they were about 8. It might be too long for toddlers and younger children. The trail is not wheelchair or stroller accessible, although the viewpoint is. It’s closest to the Luray entrance to the park. There are no restrooms or other facilities at this overlook.
Great .3 mile easy hike. It will take you less that fifteen minutes to get some fresh air.
Gorgeous little loop. Nice view from the overlook, but this hike offers little more for views. The .25 mile loop offers a peaceful walk through the moss covered forest and is easy enough for young children. Our 1.5 yr old and 3.5 year old walked the whole loop and had a blast!
