Haven Beach Dog-Friendly Guide – Diggs, Virginia

Haven Beach, located in scenic Diggs, VA, is a hidden gem for pet owners seeking a peaceful, dog-friendly beach on the Virginia coast. This wide, open shoreline is well-known for its clean sands, calm waters protected by jetties, and welcoming atmosphere for both dogs and families. Dogs are allowed on the beach, making it a standout destination among dog parks in Diggs, Virginia, especially for those who enjoy pet-friendly swimming areas and relaxing walks along the bay.

Visitors can take advantage of the free paved parking lot (with additional roadside options when full), as well as basic amenities like porta-potties and a dumpster for waste disposal. The gradual water depth and sandy stretches (with some rocky patches in certain areas) make it ideal for dog-friendly swimming and play, while the overall low crowd levels even on busy days add to the tranquil, enjoyable atmosphere. Please note that as of late April 2024, the beach is temporarily closed due to construction, so always check for updates before visiting.

This is by far the best beach I have been to in VA. The area is clean, there are restrooms near and there is not a lot of people which allow you to be a little ways away from others to enjoy your time. They also allow dogs which made this beach a even bigger plus. The drive in was beautiful. This is a must place to stop.

This was recommended to us by someone who works for Bethel Beach as a more suitable swimming area. It is definitely a nice spot for beach activities. There are a couple of areas, and the beach is protected by jetties. The sand is nice and extends out far. The depth is also good as it gradually gets deeper as you go out.

There is a dumpster and a porta potty in the parking area.

What an amazing hidden gem! I had a lovely time there yesterday! There’s a free parking lot, & street parking available too, all super close to the beach. The water temperature was great, there weren’t any jellyfish, & it’s a great place for families due to the lack of waves. The water is still plenty deep to swim. It wasn’t too crowded but it was also a weekday. They just recently re-sanded the beach which is great. There are ports potties on site as well.

I really like this beach. Quiet and charming. Only noticed a few pieces of glass when there. However there are so many rocks in the main beach area, so many that water shoes are a must otherwise you WILL cut your feet. My son was unlucky enough to fall on the rocks leaving him pretty scraped up. However if upon arrival you head left and around the bend you will find a glorious non rocky beach as well as deeper water. This section of beach is truly amazing. My family and I had tons of fun over there as opposed to the rocky and muddy beach area that welcomes you. The parking lot I’d say could squeeze in about ten cars comfortably, as it was full and we parked on the side of the road. That being said even though the parking lot is full you still have plenty of beach space to do what you like with, not crowded at all. Which is perfect for some privacy on a public beach! Enjoy!!! Update – as of 4/28/2024 this beach is closed to the public. Looks like they are doing some work on it. Lots of construction vehicles in the parking lot
