Discover one of the most scenic dog-friendly parks in Luray, VA with the Luray-Hawksbill Greenway Hiking Trail. This paved and accessible trail winds its way through the heart of Luray along a beautiful creek, offering a perfect setting for walking, jogging, biking, and birdwatching with your canine companion. Dog owners will love the easy-to-navigate terrain—stroller and wheelchair accessible—and the abundance of shady spots ideal for hot days.
The park is known for its friendly atmosphere and welcomes both families and pets, making it a versatile destination for locals and travelers alike. Enjoy picnic tables, public restrooms, benches, and unique touches like painted rock gardens and riverside art. While dogs must remain leashed, the vibrant mix of nature, local artwork, and riverside strolls makes this one of the most beloved pet-friendly trails in Virginia.
We were pleasantly surprised at how nice this trail was. Very easy walking, lots of native plants, several types of birds either fishing the river for dinner, or out in the trees. Art work on some buildings and bridge underpasses.
Great place to get in a stroll and enjoy the natural beauty of the river. Bike, dog, and kid friendly.
My family loved hiking this paved trail through the town of Luray! I loved that it was super dog friendly- my German Shepherd loved getting to see all the sights! My 3 year old daughter was able to hike the whole trail. It was nice to be able to hike around the town and visit some of the shops. Super easy hike, not too steep, paved the whole way- definitely could bring a stroller if need be. Highly recommended this trail for an easy, fun hike.
This has got to be one of the top 3 Greenways I’ve enjoyed. There are lots of shady spots for the dog. Many friendly walkers. It winds along the shallow river with its rapids and pools and hopeful folks fishing. The river is stocked, so fishing is pretty good. Benches, birds, flowers, and a rock garden filled and refilled with painted rocks for the taking. The path is asphalt, so it is very handicapped ready. They even have wheelchair docks for safe fishing or for just enjoying the river.
This is a beautiful spot. Has a paved walk trail, awesome creek. The kids loved it. They rode bikes and went fishing. We go back often.
