If you’re looking for a beautiful spot to enjoy a walk with your furry friend in Nelson County, the Rockfish Valley Trail is an excellent choice. This pet-friendly trail offers several scenic paths that wind through valleys, alongside the picturesque Little Rockfish River, and across open fields. Dog owners will appreciate the peaceful surroundings with expansive views of the mountains, easy flat trails suitable for all ages, and multiple places along the river where dogs can take a refreshing dip or quench their thirst. The area is known for its vibrant nature, from woodland stretches to trails bordering pastures with grazing cows—and the proximity to local favorites like the Bold Rock Cidery makes it a unique location for outdoor enthusiasts and their pets.
Though dogs must remain on leash throughout the park, the open fields and multiple picnic tables or benches make it a comfortable spot for extended visits. There are no fenced areas or dedicated small/large dog sections, making it more of a hiking experience than a traditional dog park. The trails are generally flat, making them easy for families and casual walkers, and the creekside route can get a bit muddy after rain. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, the Rockfish Valley Trail stands out as a top dog-friendly hiking and walking destination in Roseland, VA.

Has a few trails to wander on. Nice place for a dog walk and nany places to let your dog hop in the water to cool off and get a drink.

Our favorite park this side of the mountian. It’s on leash but has large fields and runs where you can throw a stick, ball, or Frisbee. Parts of the trail follow the little rockfish River where your four-legged friend can get a cool drink. Some of the sections by the river have a picnic table or bench. The trail also goes behind bold rock, through the woods and has a long section around fenced pasture with some cows keeping an eye on ya. A beautiful walk with much to spot in the way of nature!
