Nestled quietly within the vibrant Montrose neighborhood, Shiffick (Peggy H.) Park is a unique pocket park offering locals a peaceful green retreat. Although small, this hidden gem is cherished for its majestic century-old oak tree, providing ample shade and a tranquil, shaded spot for both dog owners and their furry friends to relax. It’s the perfect dog park in Houston, Texas for a quick break, reading session, or serene outdoor moments under the sprawling branches.
While the space is limited—about the size of a single townhouse lot—the park features a few benches and is exceptionally well-kept, making it ideal for quiet visits with your dog or an afternoon of meditation beneath the tree. Though more of a neighborhood spot than a full-scale dog-friendly playground, locals love its magical charm and leafy serenity. This hidden Houston dog park may not have extensive amenities, but its atmosphere and the legendary oak tree make it a peaceful spot cherished by both people and pets.

I skipped around the tree and thought happy thoughts, beaming from within as I asked the tree for blessings of strength and resilience. I felt better after leaving and I’m SO glad I found this hidden gem!
My eyes perked up and I heard a voice from above say “location unlocked” when I stumbled upon this hidden gem on my morning stroll through Montrose.
Immediately, I was struck by the beauty of this example of a community space tucked between the streets and streets of gated communities and fences I’d walked past before my surprise encounter.
The beauty of this tree spoke to me. I’m so happy to see that I’m not the first, and I certainly won’t be the last. Miss Peggy, you have a beautiful park.

We just happened to be in the area and stumbled upon this…
It’s a little odd to call this place a park, but it is technically one. It’s a lot the size of a single townhouse lot with a giant tree in it and a couple benches. It’s probably a good place to take a dog if you live nearby, but my kid loved the giant tree.
