If you’re looking for a dog-friendly spot to let your furry friend stretch their legs in Barre, Vermont, Dog Park is a popular choice among local pet owners. Nestled near the Barre high/middle school, this park offers a large, well-kept, fenced area with grassy ground, making it ideal for your pooch to enjoy off-leash play. The park is accessible via a short walk from the school’s parking lot using the bike path and has a reputation for being clean and well-maintained when active dog owners make use of it.
Dog Park stands out with its two separate areas for small and large dogs, each featuring a covered bench area for owners to relax. However, shade is limited—there’s only a small shelter structure and precious few trees—so it might get hot on sunny days. Please note that dedicated amenities like water fountains, trash bins, and poop bags are not consistently available, so visitors should come prepared with their own supplies. Parking can be tricky, as spaces are limited and may require parking at the nearby electrical station.
Park is technically closed. No one is caring for it. There are no bags, no trash, no water, and the grass is not mowed.
That being said, a number of people still use the park space. The fences are still there along with the gates and the shade structure
The small dog side is, however, most unusable, since there are weed trees growing in front of its gate
Hard to find parking, especially if two vehicles are already there. The entrance is along the walking trail and the street, but you have to park at the electrical station. Big park is used by a lot of small dog owners, so don’t expect small or big dogs to be separated.
My first impression is that this place is pretty well taken care of. Of the many states I’ve lived in and the dog parks we’ve tried, this one has a fence without holes and actually has grass. It’s a short walk from the school but it’s not inconvenient because it lets my pup have a warm-up and cooldown walk. There’s two areas for different sized dogs and each has a covered bench area. The only downside is that there isn’t enough foot traffic for Google to say when the park is usually active or what the best time to go is. This was my first time here and on a Holiday, but nobody else came to play with my fluffy butt.
Nice for your pooch to srretch out , but only a tiny shelter for shade. No trees! Also need to walk a bit from school atea, kind of isolated!
Park at the high/middle school and take the bike path walking out of the lot to your left, then take the second dirt path on the right off of the paved bike path. Very clean big well kept park!
