This shelter is pristine. It is in a great location, back away from the busy road and other businesses. Everyone who works there is helpful and friendly. You can tell the animals are really well cared for.

I adopted my dog from there about a year ago and have started fostering for them recently. If you have a little extra time and space you should totally fill out a foster application! It has been so fun to have five kittens and multiple sets of puppies (at diff times)

If you are considering getting a pet, I highly recommend Gloucester Matthews Humane Society! They have dogs, cats and some small animals, too. Adopt, don’t shop!!!

Nice, bright, airy and clean building, decorated nicely inside and landscaped well outside with a very friendly, caring, and helpful staff. It seems as if they have outgrown this location, however, as half of the cats enclosures (each has its own split level 2½ story townhouse with plenty of room to move about. They are not stuck in a small cage like you would see at the vet where they are recovering and not encouraged to mive about for their own safety and well-being) are lined up against the walls in the hallways making it a bit difficult to be able to take your time and get a good look at them. I felt a bit rushed (perhaps of my own anxiety of being in a wheelchair and taking up the rest of the walkway) as I was blocking others from being able to pass by, and that I couldn’t take as much time as I would have liked with the ones in the facility hallways. My issue, not theirs! They would’ve let me look as long as i wanted to. I only looked at the cats, which were all very well cared for and as happy and healthy as they could be considering their circumstance. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about each animal separately, and I really appreciated their ability to match a pet and new owner based on each ones personality and history. I absolutely trusted them in helping me to make the right choice in what will be a monumentally important and long-term decision that will impact a large portion of my and the pets life. I took away ½ star only because the facility needs more room to show their cats (not sure about the dogs’ area). Highly recommend! 4½ stars.
