If you’re searching for a dog-friendly hiking spot in Sun Valley, California, Verdugo Mountain Park offers a beautiful retreat for both you and your dog. This expansive park is popular with local dog owners for its scenic, challenging trails and breathtaking panoramic views, including glimpses of the city and Burbank Airport. The trails are perfect for pet-friendly outdoor adventures, letting active pups burn off energy amidst nature. While not a traditional fenced dog park, it’s a great choice for on-leash hikes and exploration.
The park’s trails feature moderate to steep inclines, making them ideal for those seeking a bit of exercise or a new challenge with their pets. While there isn’t much shade, early morning or late afternoon visits provide a comfortable escape from the city. Wildlife sightings are common, adding excitement for nature-loving dogs and their owners. Please note that there is no wheelchair-accessible entrance, and amenities for dogs are limited, so bring your own water and waste bags.
This is in a GATED Community that did not let us drive in. Walked to the “trail head” which was blocked off by a locked gate. Not sure why this is even on google maps to be honest…
The hike was steep, challenging and fun. I could see Burbank airport from multiple stops. The sunset was gorgeous! I didn’t have enough time to climb all the way to the top before it got pitch black. I’ll have to come back another time.
Great place for hiking and the perfect view of the city
Not much shade, but a nice hike early morning or late afternoon. A good secluded escape from the city, but close enough to not be a huge commitment.
Saw a bunch of animals too. Nice for a nature nerd like me. Interesting to see the remaining fire damage, but nice to see plants starting to grow back already.
The remains of a deer I came across made the “Dangerous Animals” warning sign a bit more heed-able lol.
The perfect balance of intensity and distance for hiking. There are multiple vantage points to appreciate the valley that surrounds them. Definitely a must for anyone who enjoys exercising or exploring new hiking trails!
