Located at 3312 NY-409 in Watkins Glen, New York, the Watkins Glen State Park Upper Entrance offers a peaceful and pet-friendly gateway to one of the region’s most beautiful natural attractions. Known for its tranquil atmosphere, this entrance provides easy access to both the scenic Gorge Trail and the North Rim Trail, making it a top choice for dog-friendly hiking and outdoor adventures. The park is well-suited for those seeking a relaxed pace and stunning photographic opportunities, including views of a dramatic gorge, lush trees, and an impressive train bridge.
Amenities at the upper entrance include picnic tables, barbecue grills, a small playground, restrooms, and access to a snack and souvenir shop (Mountain Glen House). There is a large parking lot available for a daily fee, and a shuttle bus returns visitors to their vehicles for added convenience. While there is not a dedicated dog park area, plenty of trails and open spaces make it a wonderful spot for dogs on a leash to explore the outdoors with their owners. Families will also appreciate the availability of a playground and picnic area, making it a great all-around park for everyone.
What a gorgeous place! I recently spent a morning down in the gorge at Watkins Glen. Great photography opportunities! I’ll be writing about my experience in my blog which is easily found on my website. ~Faz👋

Easy parking, has gift shop and is a good spot to descend into gorge. We only did 1/4mi in with the toddler so we didn’t get to the best parts, but uphill back to the lot was good for the legs
We started our hike in the upper entrance and it was nice going down Jacob’s ladder to see the beautiful gorge trail. On the way back we took the north rim trail but it looked like there was a shuttle running from parking lot to parking lot for NULL a person. We really enjoyed our day here at the park. Once we finished hiking we took a dip in the pool and it was so refreshing!

Great.
Parking is small. NULL dollars for all day in and out.
Better and easy walk to go down instead of up from main entrance. Restroom a bit disappointed.

This is the place to start. Big parking lot and easy entrance to both rim and gorge trails. And, come on, easier to walk down the trail than up. The shuttle bus travels between the upper and lower lots to return you to your vehicle.
Bathrooms are available as well as food and a gift shop. Even though the lower main entrance has better options
