This is a great park! Well maintained, and super fun for the kids! Love the big field next to the playground, and the river just a short walk away! So fun!

I have always enjoyed this park until a recent incident of harassment and discrimination, from an actual park employee, has made me question if I will ever come here again.
I was going to use the restroom, and while I was in there, I planned to fill up the water jug I like to keep on hand for if my car overheats. Since I was only going to be there for a few minutes, I parked in some shade, instead of in a parking spot, but to clarify, I was not blocking traffic, or impeding anyone with where I parked. I put my windshield shade up, as I always do, even if I am only going to be a few minutes. It’s August. It’s hot. No sense letting my car turn into an oven while using the restroom.
While I was pouring the rest of my bottle of soda into my cup with ice, a man came up to my window. He asked me if I needed help finding a parking spot. I told him no, that I realized I wasn’t technically in a “spot” but that I was only going to use the restroom and get some water for my car, then I would be leaving. He said he hadn’t seen anyone park where I was before, and I had been here a couple of minutes, so he wanted to see if I was ok. I told him I was fine, and that I was emptying a soda bottle so I could use it to get water for my car. He then asked me a ludicrous question, that I still don’t understand. He asked if I would be driving with my windshield shade up. Obviously not. I was definitely annoyed by this point with him asking such an asinine question, so I got out of my car, grabbed the jug I wanted to fill with water out of my hatchback, and started walking towards the restroom. This man physically blocked my path, which is illegal BTW, and could be construed as false imprisonment. He told me that he was not going to allow me to use the PUBLIC restroom, because they were having camp, and it was his job to “protect the children.” I have no idea what that is even supposed to mean. Protect them from what, exactly? To clarify, I am a woman, I am dressed as a woman would dress, and I am not transgender, so I definitely don’t understand what he was getting at. I was very angry by this point. I had been accosted for no reason, asked ridiculous questions, and now this man was physically barring me from using a PUBLIC restroom! I had to go to the bathroom, but I was so angry I just used the spigot to fill up my water jug, while this person stood, hovering over me, watching my every move. I asked him if he didn’t have anything better to do than harass someone for no reason. He said he was the “camp director ” and no, he didn’t have anything better to do at the time. I informed him I would be filing a complaint, and he replied he didn’t care.
Now you just can’t make this next bit up. I called the Parks and Recreation of Post Falls and left a message for a person named Tracy. I had left by this point, as I was fed up with this person’s behavior. I called the Kiwanis Park phone number to advise them of this person’s actions, and was transferred to Tracy, who actually answered this time. She told me that yes, this man did work for Parks and Recreation, and that they have been illegally blocking people from using public restrooms for three years in a row! She said that parents pay hundreds of dollars for kids to go to camp, and so they block the public access to the restrooms. She informed me that at least he allowed me to fill up my water jug.
To be honest, I am dumbfounded, how people who actually work for the city parks and recreation department see nothing wrong with their behavior. They appear equally oblivious to the law, and since there was no possibility of educating Tracy, or the man harassing me, on why their actions were disrespectful, discriminatory, and violated the laws concerning access to public restrooms in public spaces, I told her good bye and that I planned to consult with an attorney. After all, she admitted that they have engaged in this behavior for THREE YEARS! Shame on both of you! What type of examples are you modeling for these campers, the kids whose parents paid hundreds of dollars for them to learn this?
