Look at beautiful family! My partner and I took our well mannered, professionally trained dogs to Paws Place in New Rochelle on January 26 at around 1130am. Our dogs play respectfully and nicely with all the other dogs, causing no disruption. Around 12pm we decided to head home– while walking out of the dog park a policer officer approached us and asked if we had permit for our dogs and that all dogs need park permits to play in the park. We told him we were unaware of that policy and that we have been to this particular park a ton of times and has never been asked if we had park permits. Which is totally fine, as we respect the park and its rules. It’s what happened after…The officer proceeded to ask us if we read the signs around the perimeter of the park (in a rude sarcastic tone) so I asked him if someone called and reported 2 black unfamiliar faces in park and that I will stick around to make sure he asks every person in the dog park if they have the proper park permit for their dogs. He proceeded to ask for my partner his name and information as he started writing up a city code violation warning. My partner and I both left our wallets in the car. He asked my partner “are you going to give me the right name and address or do we need to go to the car and see your license?” Why would you assume my partner would give out the wrong information? Because we are black? After the officer issued our warning. He continued to walk into the park asking 1 or 2 persons for their dog permit. One person had it and the other didn’t — he DID NOT write a warning for the other (white) person without the proper permit. We were targeted and racially discriminated against. A white man witnessed the entire ordeal and offered to write a statement if we decided to write a complaint. Which we DID!
Great park, great dogs and owners. Parking on the street outside of the park or at the school after school hours. Clean, big area great for running and playing fetch. Secure. Free water pump available. Plenty of benches under the shade. And an area for small dogs is inside the park, immediately to the right after you walk through the gate. Only thing I would like to see here is poopie bags available cuz I have seen many owners come without bags and not clean up after their dog. Highly recommend this park though 5/5 stars.
Great dog park. Big grounds and friendly pet owners. Permit required. There are trash cans at the exits, plus a hose in summer.
A massive enclosed area for dogs to run freely, meet other dogs, or to just be in their own space. If they were crossing the rainbow, this is where they would go
Unfortunately there are at least 17 rules for this dog park. It is a beautifully spacious, perfect wonderful park for your dog, but you are not allowed to bring your dog there unless they are registered in new Rochelle and have a permit. And on top of that God forbid you have a residency outside of Westchester County. You’re not allowed to bring your dog there. I drove all the way from White Plains, New York, like 20 something minutes away to bring my dog here on a beautiful day only to find out that I couldn’t because of the fact that only people from New Rochelle can bring their dog here and even then, only if they have a valid permit. And you have to be a Westchester County resident to get a permit.
