Trail Head, also known for its connection to Sycamore State Park, is a fantastic spot for dog owners seeking dog-friendly hiking and pet-friendly trails in Trotwood, Ohio. With easy-to-moderate loop trails winding through lush foliage and often running alongside a creek, this destination is perfect for families—with or without four-legged companions—looking for a scenic and refreshing outdoor experience. The park’s Storybook Trail and cute little library add a unique charm, making it especially great for visits with kids and dogs.
This dog-friendly park is a popular local choice for hiking with your canine companion, but be prepared for muddy conditions, especially after rain, and bring insect repellent for peak summer months due to bugs near the pond. While dogs are allowed on all trails, note that these are shared spaces and proper leashing is likely encouraged for safety and enjoyment of all visitors. Trail Head is a great year-round destination for pet owners searching for an easy escape into nature with their pups!
Funny that Sycamore state park is called “trail head”. Trails are awesome.
This was a fairly easy trail and would be a fun hike for young kids.8
Great long hike with varying terrain to keep it fun. Lots of different foliage. Most of the walk is near a creek as well.
The trails here are very muddy pretty much all the time. Wear proper shoes and bring insect repellent. The storybook trail is cute and seems to lead down to the fishing pond. The other trails continue through the park in a loop.
Okay, I love going on new trails in Dayton, and I was excited to see this one was pretty close to me. The storybook trail idea and the little library is really cute! However, the length of the tree branches hanging down over the trail meant that it was covered in spider webs (We couldn’t avoid them, we walked through about six or seven spider webs on the way down the trail). Unfortunately, the presence of the pond and it being July also meant… Horse flies. We only made it half way before I was chased by two horseflies relentlessly. With the spiderwebs and the horseflies, at that point, I was done 😂 I turned around and went home. I’ll return when it’s not crazy bug season. I wouldn’t recommend taking your kids right now lol.
