The New Jersey Brigade Area is tucked away in the scenic stretches of Jockey Hollow National Historic Park, just across the street from the main park grounds in Bernardsville, New Jersey. Known for its historical significance and natural beauty, this site offers dog owners and pet lovers a unique outdoor experience. Enjoy dog-friendly and pet-friendly hiking trails of varying terrain, surrounded by the lingering history of the Revolutionary War soldiers’ encampment and the stunning Cross Estate gardens.
Visitors will find well-marked, moderate trails that are perfect for hiking with your dog, with several trail connections to other local attractions. Ample parking is available, but amenities such as water fountains, seating, and restrooms are limited. While the park is generally quiet—even on weekends—caution is advised due to occasional wildlife sightings and ticks in overgrown areas. The Cross Estate’s gardens (when open) and the tranquil scenery add extra charm, making this a memorable destination for dogs and their owners looking for adventure or relaxation in North Jersey.
Lots of options. Hike on the trails of Jockey Hollow, walk over to visit Cross Gardens (Mansion closed due to COVID?) or wander over to the Audubon Society grounds. This area needs access to the main parts of Jockey Hollow through a bridge, I saw a sign indicating the bridge is closed due to construction. Maybe next time.

Its got a nice parking lot, nice variety of terrian, dog friendly, bike friendly, and has some nice sites closes the beginning. Downsides, no bathroom (which is typical) and more importantly the map is useless. It only shows the main trail. That would be fine if it was obvious when your on it. Decent navigation skills or a lot of extra time recomended.
