Discover one of the best dog-friendly hiking experiences in the Hudson Valley at Port Jervis Watershed Park and Recreation Area, nestled on Reservoir Ave, Port Jervis, New York. This expansive park is beloved for its top-notch, well-marked trails that are perfect for mountain biking, hiking, and walking with your pup. Pet owners enjoy the scenic beauty of multiple reservoirs, lush woods, wildlife sightings, and invigorating fresh air—making it a unique spot for dog lovers looking for outdoor adventure and natural serenity.
While there are no designated fenced dog park areas, the broad network of trails is pet-friendly and provides a fantastic opportunity for leashed dogs to explore nature. Parking is conveniently located near Deerpark Reservoir, and the park stays clean and well-maintained thanks to dedicated trail crews. Please note, the reservoirs are off-limits for swimming and boating, and keeping dogs leashed is necessary due to frequent mountain bikers and hikers sharing the paths.
Top notch trails! Well marked, well maintained. Best trails I’ve been on in a long time.

Really beautiful park with lots of great views, a few lakes and woods. The trails are in great shape and very well maintained (lots of thanks to everyone who is doing all that work). I didn’t find many beginner trails, mostly seemed like intermediate trails, but there are some old gravel roads that are easy. Everything is very well marked and easy to follow, hard to get lost here.

Watershed Park is large and offers trails for bikers and hikers of all ability levels. Make sure you obtain a copy of the map before setting out, though cell service here is moderate. This place is known for mountain biking, so keep your party (including dogs) ready for encounters. There are several designated parking areas, of which I prefer the one next to Deerpark Reservoir. The reservoirs are nice for views and breezes, but strictly off limits for swimming and boating. This park closed to hunters and is a good choice for an autumn hunting-season outing.
