Experience scenic, pet-friendly trails at Green Lakes Perimeter Trail, just outside Kirkville, NY. This spot is popular with local hikers and dog owners thanks to its well-maintained paths, moderate inclines, and peaceful woodland atmosphere. Enjoy a variety of hiking options, from short loops perfect for leisurely dog walks to longer stretches connecting to the main Green Lakes State Park. The trails are dog-friendly and a favorite for both exercise and wildlife watching with your furry companion.
What makes this area unique for dog owners is the open fields and less-crowded trails on the park’s perimeter—ideal for dogs that enjoy exploring away from busy crowds. There are benches along the routes for relaxing, lovely views, and wooded sections offering natural shade. Free to enter for hikers, Green Lakes Perimeter Trail is perfect for year-round outdoor activities, from walking and hiking to cross-country skiing and winter sledding. Please bring your own water and waste bags and be mindful of parking availability, as spaces can be limited during peak times.
Great place for a good workout. Plenty of good trails and some moderate inclines which makes hiking and mountain biking a pleasant experience and lots of good views and the occasional deer sightings and quite a few bunnies and birdies.
Beautiful place to hike or fish.
It was a great hike. It can be done in sneakers.
This trail head is nice because it opens up a less popular side of green lakes. The trails from here do eventually connect to the main lake trails, but they also open up parts of the park that are unseen by most visitors. If you’ve never gone to Green Lakes, go to the main entrance. But if you have visited Green Lakes before and you’re looking for something new visit some of the trails that start here.
I will say the views aren’t as spectacular as the lake views you get in the park, but if you’re looking for something different visit this trail head.
Also be weary that there aren’t that many parking spaces so it could very well be full when you arrive.
Great trail options in the entire area. I completed the Deer Run trail loop. Signage from the perimeter trail entry point was not the most specific, but was clearer up on the loop. The trail was varied, kept very clear, with some nice views and occasional benches for pauses to enjoy them!
