🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]

Greenhorn Park Reservoir Trail is one of the most beloved outdoor spaces in Yreka, California. This spacious park features wide open grassy areas, plenty of shade, and both paved and natural trails, making it a perfect destination for dog owners looking for pet-friendly adventures. With picturesque lake views, the opportunity for hiking on scenic trails, and spaces to relax and enjoy the natural beauty, this park offers a peaceful escape for both dogs and their humans.
What sets Greenhorn Park apart is its variety of amenities: large open areas ideal for letting your dog run (check leash requirements), lots of benches and picnic tables, and beautifully maintained main areas. The park features two playgrounds for families, lovely spots to view geese and ducks by the lake, and historic sights like old town buildings and mining equipment along the main trail. While the main sections are well-kept, visitors are encouraged to help keep the park clean and be mindful of picking up after their pets.
5 star rating. I just like the beautiful nature.
Great for hiking and enjoying the scenery.
Nice big open grassy park area with plenty of shade to throw the ball for our pup on a hot day.
Upper Greenhorn Park is a great place to bring your kids & grandkids to play! 2 different playgrounds for different ages & and one playground has a fence around it, which makes it easier for this Grandma to keep track of all 5 grandkids. Watch the Ducks & Geese while you relax in the sun or shade. Nice benches & picnic tables offer lots of places to sit & eat. The paved walking path that encircles the lake is a great way to walk the park & is also handicap friendly. I recommend Upper Greenhorn Park access over Lower Greenhorn Park as their are many homeless loitering in the Lower Park access.
Please hire someone to regularly comb over the park and get to all the hard to reach trash. Some people are horrible and leave stuff in the bushes or the creek. Me and my kid picked up every piece of trash we could when we saw it, but some spots are dangerous. We still found a lot.
This is the best park in town. It’s huge, there’s two play areas and one is fenced for the littles.
The lake is amazing and there’s plenty of spots to sit and look at the geese.
I’ve seen people fish in the lake too if that’s your thing.
There are plenty of tables if you have an event.
It’s well kept (all the main areas are very clean – earlier I was talking about trash that people practically hide)
The trails are great. The main ones are wide enough for two groups to pass each other. There are a few less traveled ones especially on the other side away from the lake that are just gorgeous and much thinner and more private if you don’t feel like seeing other people (or at least the people you do see will likely be like you, wanting less eye contact)
Don’t forget to check out the old town buildings and mining equipment on the main trail. It’s like a free outdoor museum.
