Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Ankeny Dog Park is a popular pet-friendly spot located at 1155 SW Ankeny Rd in Ankeny, Iowa. With wheelchair accessible entrances and parking, this dog park welcomes dogs of all sizes and offers a dedicated place for your furry friends to run and play off-leash in a controlled, secure environment. There are separate areas for small and large dogs, as well as a water pond area in its own enclosure—a perfect spot for pups who love to splash.
Visitors appreciate the park’s clean environment, biodegradable poop bags, and double-gated entry for safety. Please note that a dog park tag or pass is required for entry, which helps maintain the park’s facilities and ensures a community of responsible, dog-loving owners. Shade is somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. The park enforces a no-kids-under-10 policy for safety. Ankeny Dog Park stands out as a well-maintained space for the local community and those visiting the Ankeny area with dogs.
Entry way is close to water fountain area. Plan to stagger in entryway if you have big dogs, lots of room to sniff thru the fence. Not a lot of shade.
Water pond area is in a separate enclosure.
Great park..!! No kids under 10!!!
People please purchase your dog park tags before you come.
You can purchase a tag from hyvee , that helps keep it nice and the people are usually legit dog people..
Kids under 10 not allowed for safety reasons , which makes sense to me.. The dogs can really get running around fast…
This is a great park for legit dog people, follow the rules or don’t come in… 🙂
Extremely greedy of the owner/s to try to monetize a traditionally public service, the town is a common stop on roadtrips and many people want to let their dogs out. Nobody should have to pay or provide any records to use a dog park that to my knowledge is built on public land. It’s shameful to expect people to pay and it’s humiliating that people do.
Not everyone picks up their dogs fecal matter. However, the provided poop bags are biodegradable and go down a shoot very easily. Most dogs get along with each other, and the separation between large and small is a great idea. We have a very small mature dog. There are some places in the fence line that are open and can allow them to escape. This needs to be addressed. If they are not fixed by the next time I go, I will be taking zip ties.
On the residential side of the small dog park, there is a vehicle entry gate, and occasionally, the mud ruts made from the tires also allow for a space for smaller dogs to get out.
We were driving through on a road trip and wanted to give our dogs a break. Found what looked like a great dog park on the map. Sorry to say you have to buy some type of pass to receive some type of code to get inside of the park. Such BS. Skip this place. All parks should be free for people and dogs.
