Perfect for walking, running, or biking with your furry friend, Woodland Park’s trails are stroller and pet-friendly and ideal for dog-friendly hiking. Benches and picnic areas provide plenty of places to rest and soak in the peaceful atmosphere, and ample parking is available close to the trail entrance.
Woodland Park stands out for its accessibility and natural charm—it’s described as being off the beaten path and offers a quiet retreat from crowds. There’s a strong sense of local history, highlighted by a historic schoolhouse near the parking lot and community-maintained grounds. The park is open from dawn to dusk with no admission fee, making it a convenient and affordable choice for dog walks, family outings, or an afternoon of relaxation.
The brush and small trees around the pond have been cut down to about 6 inches by what appears to be a bush hog. It left a lot of sharpened 6 inch wood stems sharpened sticking straight up. With the shore being on an angle, and the cut brush and branches left behind, there are trip and impale hazards galore. A lot like the punji sticks in Vietnam. Unsafe to try to walk the banks of the pond unless you’re a mountain goat.
Beautiful park so many different trails so much to see benches to where u can sit and listen to the wildlife and just relax it was so beautiful here can’t wait to come back
Off the beaten path, near Seafood DE, is this park that reflects the theme of an old sitcom called ” Little House on the Prairie”. One of their local residents , now 92, helps maintain this park – and probably one of the last students that attend this school. For those with walking disabilities, this park is small and offers a breath of fresh air.
Wide, gravel covered short trails. Good for strollers, bicycles, walkers, runners, pets. Ample parking. Map of trails is posted between the parking lot and trail entrance. Trails include occasional slight inclines. Wraps through tall pines, grassy areas, and around ponds. Includes benches and picnic areas. Trails include large markers indicating what trail you are on (or crossing) and distance to the parking lot. According to the Sussex County Delaware website, the low-impact trails at the site total almost 2 miles. Easy walk; great for children. Open from dawn to dusk. No admittance fee.
It’s a very relaxing place to walk with not a lot of people around. It’s probably about a mile of gravel paths along the woods and around a couple of ponds. The old school by the parking lot is pretty cool too.
