Hopkins Green is a quaint public green space located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Virginia, at 22 W Nelson St. While it is often searched as a potential dog park in Lexington, it is important to know that dogs are not currently allowed within the fenced area of Hopkins Green itself. Many local dog owners walk their pets along the nearby historic neighborhoods but are greeted by a prominent “no dogs allowed” sign at the park gate. Despite that, the surrounding area remains a pleasant place for a stroll and for walking your dog on-leash along the picturesque city sidewalks.
For off-leash fun and pet-friendly trails around Lexington, residents frequently use the scenic Woods Creek Trail, which is easily accessible nearby. The trail follows the Maury River and offers beautiful river views, ample wildlife, shaded benches, and even pet waste stations at key trailheads. While Hopkins Green directly isn’t a dog park, it’s part of a larger network of green spaces and family-friendly amenities in Lexington, making it a popular hub for local events, children’s play areas, and easy access to nature trails popular with dog walkers.
It is a small but nice green space in downtown Lexington, Virginia.
Would make a beautiful dog park. Lexington never had anything for our fur babies…
Nice quaint evening out to see the Christmas tree lighting and the luminaries offered by the local SPCA.
Every day I walk my dog past this park he stops and stares forlorn through the imposing iron fence. As I contemplate twisting the “no dogs allowed” sign from the gate, he looks away from the squirrels romping unabated through the lush grass and continues to plod down the cold concrete sidewalk, tail dragging and a single tear falling past his whiskers.
Google suggested it as a dog park, but alas, no dogs allowed. Nice neighborhood to walk around.
