Located just outside Wytheville, Virginia, Crystal Springs Recreation Area is a beautiful dog-friendly park renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and stunning natural scenery. With a large network of trails ranging from easy walks to more challenging hikes like the Border Trail and the climb to High Rocks, dog owners will find plenty of opportunities for exercise and enrichment. The park’s diverse trails meander through forests full of wildflowers and offer breathtaking views from the top, making it a great spot for pet-friendly adventures year-round.
Crystal Springs isn’t a traditional fenced dog park; instead, it offers miles of leashed hiking through tranquil woodlands, shaded paths, mountain laurel, and rhododendron tunnels. Amenities reported by visitors include picnic shelters, primitive campsites with nearby restrooms, accessible paths, and parking close to the trailheads. It’s a top choice for those seeking a dog-friendly hiking or walking experience in the Wytheville area.
I took my dog for a hike at Crystal Springs passing through Wytheville. We hiked the Border Trail and up to High Rocks. The views at the top were really great, but its a steep climb up. And we saw lots of wildflowers on the hike. Border Trail is over 8 miles, not 7 like they say, so its a long hike when adding on High Rocks. There are several shorter trails as well closer to the parking lot. Really nice park, will definitely return.
Beautiful. The trails still need some care from recent storms like Helene but its great for hiking. Cleaned up some downed trees and other trail hazards. Leave the bike at home unless you are a serious mountain biker.
Amazing area to go walk on trails. Very beautiful to check out when the colors are changing in the fall time. I really enjoyed how peaceful and calming it is here. Very relaxing
This is really how it should NOT be. A group of foreigners trashed the place on Friday afternoon and left a big mess right before Memorial Day weekend. We should not judge others they say, but when they come here and are totally disrespectful of our beautiful gem and leave it trashed, I have no respect either. They spoke a middle eastern language and were from out of state. I hope the surveillance cams caught it, 2 vehicles had a license plate from Alabama and New York. Others had their hatch up and I couldn’t see the license plate. They had no plates in the front. Anyone is welcome but they should respect the land.
I come here every day to enjoy the beauty of the park and this is scandalous!!!!!!!!!
The town really shouldn’t promote this park everywhere on the internet for people to find it and come here to have a party and leave it trashed for other people who want to enjoy nature. This has always been a beautiful peaceful place to enjoy. I hope it can stay that way.
Crystal Spring is a very relaxing place to hike with many trails to take an adventure. From easy to moderate. Even have BMX bike trails. The woods are amazing they have shelters along the way and I seen two primitive camp sites with bathrooms near by. Would definitely revisit!
