Buffington Park – Dog-Friendly Gem in Cathlamet, WA

If you’re searching for a dog park in Cathlamet, Washington, Buffington Park is a must-visit. This scenic and peaceful spot offers beautiful views of the Columbia River and has separate areas for large and small dogs, making it safer and more enjoyable for pups of all sizes. The park provides several amenities including water for dogs, picnic tables with covered shelters, and readily available poop bags to help keep the area clean. There’s plenty of seating for pet owners to relax and enjoy the surroundings while their furry friends play off-leash.

Buffington Park stands out for its relaxed vibe, pet-friendly paths, and thoughtful details like water bins for dogs to cool off during warm days. While the dog park itself is a smaller sandy patch (which can get muddy in rainy weather), its proximity to the river walk and amazing views makes it a perfect stop for both a quick stretch and a longer visit. Although parking is limited, there is a small lot that’s been expanded recently. Public restrooms are available, though they receive mixed reviews on cleanliness. Cute little Park stopped here for a few minutes on her walk when we were on Puget Island. Has a heritage site location here for the Lewis and Clark trail and also had a couple of picnic tables with a covered area to have a picnc, as well as a portable toilet. And some dog bags to clean up if your dog makes a mess.
