🐾 How to Handle Aggressive Dogs at the Dog Park – Real Advice from Dog Owners
Visiting the dog park can be a joyful activity for both you and your furry friend—but aggressive encounters can quickly […]
Mutt Run Off-Leash Dog Park in Lawrence, Kansas, is a spacious and scenic destination for dog owners seeking a unique off-leash experience. Located at 1330 E 902 Rd, this popular dog park offers expansive open spaces, grassy fields, and pet-friendly hiking and walking trails. The park is wheelchair accessible, with designated parking and easy access to the entrance for visitors with mobility needs.
What makes Mutt Run stand out is its combination of large unfenced areas for roaming and a smaller fenced-in play area for those who prefer additional security. Dogs and their owners can enjoy dog-friendly hiking, access to a nearby river for swimming, several benches for resting, and an agility course. Additional amenities include picnic tables, public restrooms, and waste bins placed throughout the trails. While water is available near the entrance, shade can be limited, so visitors should prepare for sun exposure on hot days. This park offers a welcoming spot for dogs to socialize, exercise, and connect with nature near Lawrence.
GOOD: The park is generally well kept, and its a big open space for *off leash* dogs to run for great lengths among grass and trees, connecting to the near by river on-leash gootpaths. There is a smaller fenced area for dogs to play off leash as well. My dog loved coming here to socialize and run around.
BAD: We’ve always had issues with some dogs brought to the park that are not dog friendly and some that are not people friendly. Some dogs run around with little to no supervision out of their owner’svisual range. Be careful parking here as often dogs will run around the parking area unnoticed. A dog got hit by a car here not long ago. While I’ve had dogs come at mine aggressively before, we finally had a dog attack mine yesterday. The front area near the water dish is where many dogs congregate and can become dicey. Which is a shame, but it’s been a known issue of the area I can’t ignore and a part of the reality of going to an unsupervised dog park.
CONCLUSION: Its beautiful and big, but enjoy at your own risk knowing dogs have been known to get hurt here.
I love this dog park! The off-leash area is huge, and there is even a separate on-leash section for your pups. It is such a joy to see my dog run free; he looks so happy. Very little as far as facilities like a toliet or water fountain.
I recently visited the dog park and was pleasantly surprised by its cleanliness and spaciousness. The park offers scenic views and plenty of benches for resting, though it could benefit from more shaded areas. Unfortunately, the water areas were dried up, or the ones seen, which was disappointing. Despite this, my dog Spade had a fantastic time, and I’ll definitely be bringing him back. Overall, it’s a lovely spot for dogs to run and play, just be prepared for a bit of sun exposure when hot out.
Wonderful off leash park!
Even when the parking lot is full, you are never overwhelmed by other dogs or people. You can choose to go to the fenced-in park, the off leash play area where most dogs hang out, or you can go walk the trails and more likely than not be on your own. Maybe passing one or two other dogs.
Great place to bring your off leash dogs. There are lots of different trails to spread out on and there is access to the river for the dogs to swim. The entrance has water available for dogs to drink and a small agility course. The trails have some trashcans spread throughout for waste.
