It’s a great park for camping. Has a good hiking place around the lake. Our camping went well. Great place. Con: the restroom needs to be kept clean.

Quiet park with nice lake for paddle sports. Showers available in campground, but could use some updating. Very reasonable pricing for camping. Overall very nice park.

We stayed one night here in August of 2025. The Camp Hosts were amazing when we checked in, as they helped me correct a reservation error that I made. The sites were nice and large, and the entire campground was very wooded with large and sprawling trees. Lots of shade here, so this would be a great campground on hot days. Fire pits were very large, so you could have a nice big fire. We used 30amp service at our site.
NOTE; Even though I want to give this campground 5-stars, I cannot, because the bathroom needs major upgrades and repairs. We tried to use the bathroom other places before returning to the campground, because we didnt want to use the one there. If the state of Illinois can build a new bathroom facility here, it would be 5+ stars.

Weldon Springs State Park is about a 2 hour drive from Chicago Western suburbs. It’s located in a little town of Clinton in DeWitt County. It’s a huge park offering 550 acres with varied trails, river fir swimming, camping, fishing, picnic areas, two amphitheaters and a nice veteran tribute area.
For a late May weekend, there was hardly anyone there. We felt we had the whole place to ourselves. The trail was clean and moderately easy.
There was a meadow of wildflowers and they even have a “box” trail where they have many hummingbird nests. Birds can be spotted all over but hard to catch in snapshots!
Veterans Point is very nicely done alongside the water with much patriotism which is always good to see. The walk along the water was very nice and we also discovered a dam, people hosting and kayaking.
This makes for a nice day out here!

We had a blast exploring Weldon Springs State Park in Clinton, Illinois! Unfortunately, the campground was closed for the winter, but we still enjoyed walking around the lake and watching the geese on the ice – it was so beautiful, especially with the sun setting. The trails were well-maintained, though a little muddy in spots where the snow had melted. We didn’t have enough time to explore everything, but we made sure to visit Veterans Point, a touching tribute to those who have sacrificed for our freedom. We even checked out the old school on our way out! Can’t wait to come back when the weather warms up a bit.
